SEE and class 12 students in fear of exam confusion and transition
The
Secondary Education Examination (SEE) would have started from today if it had
not been postponed due to the Kovid-19 infection epidemic. The confusion of the
exams and the outbreak of the epidemic have also increased the fear of the mental
impact on the students preparing for the SSE exams.
Elisha Shrestha of Radherodhe,
Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-4 says that the students who are preparing for the
exam have to go through stress due to worries about when the exam will be held
and on the other hand how to avoid corona infection. He says the coronavirus is more dangerous than the SEE. While preparing for the exam and
taking regular online classes, she says she is now worried about when and how
the exam will take place, and how to avoid corona infection.
Asmita Thapa, who lives in her own
neighborhood has been affected by the corona infection and Elisa has also been
affected psychologically. A few days ago, a friend studying in the same school missed her online class due to a corona infection and she knows that she
has suffered a lot.
Asmita says, "I have had coronary heart disease, I have dropped out of school, I have become very weak.
In the meantime, I am very worried about how to take the exam. We have not even
received the vaccine. How to survive and take the exam." Two days
after his father was diagnosed with the infection, he developed a fever and
contracted the virus.
According to Pabson, many students
from school principals, teachers, and teachers who are preparing for the exams
have contracted corona at this time. In Bhaktapur alone, 92 teachers and
staffs affiliated with PABSON have been infected, says PABSON Bhaktapur
Chairman Chandra Adhikari.
He said that the general students
are worried about how the exams are conducted in this difficult situation of
the country and there is a danger that the question papers will be released
even before taking the exams online. Pabson Chairman and Principal Officer
of Bhaktapur, Nishta said that parents and students are expressing concern over
how the exam will be conducted.
Minister for Education, Science and
Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha says that at present, students are not
physically present to conduct the examination. Stating that the exam is
not bigger than the health of the students, he said that a decision will be
taken this month regarding the SEE and class 12 exams with suitable options
keeping in mind the health of the students.
Many of the students preparing for
the SEE exams this year are infected with Corona themselves and parents believe that many students will not be able to participate in the online
exams as the number is increasing. Some students have taken online classes
from their mobiles. Not all students have access to the internet, computer, and
laptop, online exams cannot be taken from mobile. Therefore, the parents
say that the online exam will not have any effect.
Keshav Puri, central president of
the Parents Association of Nepal said that it was wrong to emphasize on
exam-oriented education, adding that both the physical presence of students and
online exams were not appropriate at this time. He thinks that
the school should go through the internal evaluation procedure like last year
as the corona infection is complicated this year and many students and parents
are infected.
Stating that the government does
not believe in the examinations up to class nine conducted by the school and
why it does not believe in the teaching and evaluation of class 10, he said that different method can be adopted for the examinations of class 12 as they
study higher education at home and go abroad.
"Many students have been
infected this year. The number is increasing. Not all students across the
country have access to online exams. It is not reliable," said Puri. ” He
said that there could not be a bigger test for the parents than the health of
the children.
Pabson Central Vice-Chairperson
Deepika Thapa Rimal said that Corona has caused a lot of panic among the
students who are preparing for the exams. He said that the students were
studying before the exam and carrying pictures of the corpse after the exam. He
said that the situation was complicated when the virus spread among the parents
and students. He said that the school should not be handed over in full
like last year. He said that Pabson believed that certain rules
should be followed.
Discussing with Pabson, Thapa said
that the government has discussed four methods of conducting examinations
in this year's exams. Pabson and a team from the Ministry of Education have
discussed in four 'modalities' about conducting internal assessment in class 10
and tightening the entrance test for class 11 students.
Stating that the decision of SEE
should not be delayed, he said that the internal evaluation procedure should be
improved as it was last year. A task force formed by the National
Examination Board under the coordination of Director-General of the Center for
Education and Human Resource Development Baikuntha Aryal to study how to
conduct SEE and Class 12 examinations on April 10 is scheduled to submit its
report to the board today.
Aryal, the coordinator of the task
force, said that they were preparing to submit the report prepared by the task
force on class 10 and 12 to the board despite the decision to conduct an internal
evaluation of the class 8 examination. He said, "The task force has
prepared a report with various modalities after discussing with various
concerned bodies. We submit it to the board today. It is the property of the
board.
Last year, at the end of the SSE
exams, the government postponed the exams and decided to conduct an internal
assessment later. This year, the board has been given the responsibility
of how to do it. Chairman of the Examination Board Chandra Mani Poudel
said that the report to be submitted by the task force today was not final but
only a draft. According to him, after understanding the report, it will be
sent to the board members for study.
"The decision was taken by the
government after the examination was postponed last year. This year it has been
given to the board. The board will study the draft of the task force and
discuss and finalize the decision in a few days," Poudel said. All
decisions will be made by this month. ”
This year, around 517,000 students are preparing for SEE. Along with the printing of question papers for the examination, 2,019 examination centers were fixed across the country. Similarly, the printing of question papers has been stopped as soon as the class 12 examination from June 10 has been postponed. Last year, due to the corona epidemic, the board had given the results to the SEE examinees based on the internal assessment done by the school. Although the board has made preparations to take the exam by sending question papers only to certain examination centers that have access to internet facilities this year, no decision has been taken on how to go after the postponement.
